WHAT'S A MAINBOARD?

The mainboard also called "motherboard" is the main structure of a computer, in this plate, every component connects to each other.

Every PC needs a mainboard.

What are the functions of a mainboard?

The mainbboard is the main section, that ties the computer's components together at one spot and allows them to talk to each other. None of the computer parts such as CPU, GPU, or hard drive could interact with each other, without it.

Mainboard slots

Every component needs to be placed somewhere, so the motherboard includes many slots, such as CPU socket, RAM slots and so on.

PCIE parts

PCIe is definied for “peripheral component interconnect express”. The PCIE is used for handling from multiple sources. It primarily is an interface standard for connecting high-speed component. Every motherboard has some PCIe slots, you can use to add SSD, RAID cards or GPUs. PCIe slots come in different

physical configurations: x1, x4, x8, x16, x32. The number after the x tells you how many lanes (how data travels to and from the PCIe card) that PCIe slot has.

CPU

A central processing unit, also calles CPU or processor is used in many electronic devices. Its function is to calculate all processing for executing commands.

Our latest article is about fast CPUs not being able to use all cores if the memory modules are installed incorrectly and how to fix it correctly.

GPU

The GPU stands for "Graphics Processing Unit".
Its specialized for speeding up graphics rendering. GPUs are able to process many pieces of data at the same time.

CMOS Battery

The CMOS battery powers your computers BIOS firmware, which is responsible for booting up your computer and configuring data flow.

RAM

RAM also called "Random Access Memory" is a Short-term memory. Basically it manages and stores the running processes.

RAID-CONTROLLER (SERVER)

The RAID-Controller like its name controlls the RAID-System. It is ideal and meant for server infrastructures.

RAID-Systems explained

SSD / HDD

SSD and HDD both are storage devices. The main differece about SSD and HDD is, that Solid State Drive is way faster and smaller. The reason is, that it lies in the technology for storing and retrieving data.
